DIY Engraved Cake Stand

DIY Engraved Cake Stand

Guys, I have great news! I am so excited to be partnering with Bernzomatic for a second year as one of their Torch Bearers! That means another year of fun projects with their line of torches! To help celebrate this partnership, Bernzomatic asked me to create a fun engraved cake stand!

One of the things I love about this project is how easy it is to create a custom heat engraved project with the use of a soldering iron kit for hobby use!

Even better, this totally doubles as a fun gift for anyone getting married or having a birthday… or, let’s get real… it’s really a fun gift to yourself (and an awesome excuse to eat cake). Let’s do this.

Directions

  1. Start by spray painting your candle holder or wooden base with black spray paint. This will be the base for your metallic spray later.

  2. While your base coat dries, use a compass to draw a circle on your scrap wood. I made my circle 9″ wide to fit a small-to-medium sized cake.

  3. Use a bandsaw or jig saw to cut our your circle.

  6. Heat up your iron and begin burning your design (I ended up going for a smaller design than what I originally drew). I used the round bit from the kit to create small circles. cake stand wedding gift I then twisted the iron to the side to create the tips of the leaves.

  7. Use a fine grit sand paper to sand away the charred edges of the wood burned design. After cleaning up the edges, make sure to sand the entire piece.
